Thai massage
Thai massage is unlike any other type of massage.  It combines elements of yoga and more traditional ancient massage techniques, such as pressing, rolling and stretching; it is a very thorough massage beginning with the feet and ending with a pressure point massage to the face, in between your whole body is stretched and manipulated in a slow, rhythmic and meditative manner.  There is no age limit to this massage, but you need to be comfortable laying on a mat on the floor; your level of flexibility is irrelevant because over a period of time you will gradually become more flexible as your body unfolds and your energy flows more freely.  Clothing should be loose, warm and comfortable.
The basis of Thai massage lies in the Sen energy lines, that all run through the stomach to the extremities; gently stretching the body opens the Sen lines and allows the energy to flow more freely.  Often stretching isn’t enough and where there are blockages in the energy system that can make us feel unwell or tired, the other techniques of Thai Massage are sometimes more effective.
The techniques of traditional Thai massage are over 2,500 years old, originating in India around the time of Buddha; this type of massage has died out in India, but is still very popular in Thailand , where the tradition has been carried on by word of mouth.  Massage is one of the four elements of traditional Thai medicine, the other disciplines being herbalism, meditation and nutrition.
The only written text about traditional Thai Massage is inscribed into the walls of the Wat Po temple in Bangkok, because most of the ancient medical texts were lost in 1776 with the destruction of Ayutthia by the Burmese.
Thai massage is beneficial for most people and most conditions; it is relaxing, increases flexibility, helps to release tension in the muscles and joints, improves posture and is beneficial for headaches, back pain and insomnia.  Thai Massage is suitable for cancer sufferers, because it has no effect on the lymphatic system.
Thai massage is fabulous as a treatment on its own, but more benefit in terms of flexibility, postural improvement and the release of tension will be gained from regular fortnightly or monthly treatments.
Oriental massage
Oriental massage has its roots in Tui Na, which is an old Chinese form of massage, using gentle stretches, acupressure and interactive manipulations.  It is really good for releasing tension in the muscles and joints and promoting the flow of energy.
Oriental massage is available for the head, neck and shoulders or as a full body massage; you will be sitting for the head, neck and shoulder massage and laying on a couch for the body massage.  In both cases you will be clothed and it is preferable if you wear loose, comfortable clothing.
Oriental massage can be conducted as a one off treatment, but if the problem is persistent, several treatments may be required on a regular basis.
