What is hypnotherapy and how does it work?
Hypnotherapy is a natural state of mind which, you may be surprised to learn, we experience every day. It enhances a person’s concentration and increases their responsiveness to suggestion in order to make beneficial positive changes to their life emotionally and/or physically.
Hypnotherapy works through bypassing the conscious part of the mind so that the subconscious part can be addressed to become more receptive to the changes a person wishes to make.
Misconceptions
People worry that, once hypnotised, the hypnotherapist controls an individual, when in reality all hypnosis is self hypnosis; the hypnotherapist merely guides a person to make the changes they want or need to make in their lives.
A hypnotherapist cannot make a person do anything they do not want to do, or to which they morally object. You cannot get stuck in hypnosis, and you can leave the state whenever you wish to.
What will I feel during hypnosis?
Hypnosis is not sleep; it is a trance-like state. To explain this further, have you ever been so engrossed in a book or a film that you haven’t noticed when someone has called your name? If so, you were in a trance-like state at the time.
During hypnosis, you will feel extremely relaxed and calm and aware of everything around you. It is a very pleasant and enjoyable state. You are in complete control; there is nothing to fear.
